The site is in Marlborough’s higher country, on clay soils and is planted exclusively to pinot noir. Several contemporary clones, planted in 2001/02, have been selected. The site has a lower flat stretch and a hillside section. A portion of the lower part of the vineyard has been sold, while the hillside section has been retained, prized for its ability to deliver more precise powerful fruit. The wines are driven by a philosophy that fuses the potential of the variety, the region, the site and the global facination with New Zealand pinot.

2007 Pinot Noir
“…weighs into the lower priced premium New Zealand pinot territory and delivers exactly the right style of wine for that market. This wine takes the fruit from the lower, flatter section of the vineyard with a portion of the hillside grapes blended to style each vintage. Oak isn’t a big slice of the equation, but pinot noir certainly is. This has pure cherry scented pinot noir fruit – bright and primary, fragrant and attractive. Ripe cherry flavours, some gentle oak spice and soft, swirling tannins charm from start to finish. It’s a terrific pinot for the money.

2006 Hatter’s Hill Pinot Noir
“… sees more oak (50 per cent new) and is more fragrant again. It’s super fine and delicate with precise, fine- faceted aromatics. The palate follows the light elegant path, the fruit has eaten the oak, acidity sits brightly through the middle and savoury, musky tannins sweep through the finish. There’s terrific balance, and the tannins are more European than you’ll find in most New Zealand (and Australian) pinots.”
Nick Stock, Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine, Imports to Watch June/July‘08

“Seductively scented with great purity of flavour: crushed cherries, kirsch and sandalwood. Silken texture and impressive length.”
Joanna Simon, Decanted Magazine, August 2008

2008 DELTA VINEYARD MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC
Aromas of white and blackcurrants and plenty of passion fruit. The palate is full, and finishes with fresh acidity with currant and mineral characters that linger for minutes. While it is a powerful wine, it also has elegance.

“ I was delighted to come across this New Zealand Sauvignon that caught my attention - not for its extreme pungency but for a very attractive combination of distinctive, top-quality, ripe Marlborough fruit and a gentle subtlety that almost hid an underlying minerality and elegant persistence”
 Jancis Robinson DEC 2007
