Steve Pannell grew up in the wine industry. In 1967, his family founded Moss Wood, the second winery and vineyard to emerge in the Margaret River region. Pannell's Australian credentials include Seppelts Great Western, Wirra Wirra, Hardy's Tintara and BRL Hardy Wine Company where he was the Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003, making some fabulous wines such as Eileen Hardy Shiraz and E&E Black Pepper to name just two.

During this time he won 'Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge, as well as countless trophies and gold medals. He has also worked extensively around the world at Comtes Lafon and Mouton Rothschild as well as GD Vajra in Barolo.

Other highlights in Stephen's career include winning the title of International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London, winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at The Royal Melbourne Wine Show, twice winning the Max Schubert Trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show as well as being listed as one of the 50 most influential contributors to the world of wine by Decanter Magazine. Grenache is Stephen's "warm climate pinot" whilest the Nebbiolo, which started out as "a hobby" , has quickly turned into one of the most interesting wines in our portfolio.

2007 SC Pannell Nebbiolo, Adelaide Hills
Fragrant and pure: loganberry pips, some porcini with air, new leather, fennel - complex. Fabulous texture on the palate, the perfect masochistic mix of tannin and acid: terrific harmonious tension. Will evolve for at least a decade, but with decanting is great drinking now. The Age Melbourne Magazine 26/3/2010, Tim White
